NEVAH at The NEXT GENERATION THEATRE in BREWER MAINE - April 16th

NEVAH is … again … appearing at the NEXT Generation Theatre on April 16th, 2016 … believe it or not, this is their 5th appearance in as many years … and with the unpredictably crazy weather Maine's been having lately it truly is “a Cabin Fevah Relievah".

NEVAH brings an eclectic mix of instrumentation and tunes, some familiar, some original, that can’t be labeled in any particular genre … and therefore they created their own term to describe the NEVAH sound, “prograssabilly” music. Besides the multi-part harmonies and sweet arrangements … you will laugh, cry, sing along - drink beer and wine, eat home made chocolate chip cookies (baked at the Next Generation Theatre) … want to scream out loud, “enough already” (but please don’t) - a guaranteed evening of funtastic entertainment.

NEVAH is: Phil Pitula on Bass, Richard Silver on Mandolin, Ed Russell on Sax and Flute, Larry LeBlanc on Guitar, Eric Brown on Percussion, Jack Anderson on Pedal Steel, Hal Meyers on Banjo – and everyone on vocals … we are anchored by our eighth member the amazing Sound Engineer Mark Shane.

The show starts at 7:00 pm and ends with the last note… (9:00 pm-ish for those that really need to know).

Ticket prices are still only $10.00. For further information and to purchase tickets in advance – highly recommended – (seating is limited) … please call: 207-989-7100. You can also visit NEVAH on Facebook or nevahband.com for any updates.

Lots of music, fun, laughter … be there, or be there … in any case … be there!

NEVAH at the NEXT GENERATION THEATRE - OCT 4th

BREAKING press release from NEVAH …

NEVAH’s 1st EVAH FALL FLING…

We are NEVAH, a Maine band, bringing A LIVE MUSIC SHOW to the WORLD FAMOUS NEXT GENERATION THEATRE, October 4, 2014 AD from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. We present a unique concert experience with an abundance of original and familiar tunes. We’ve coined the word, “prograssabilly” to describe the blending of progressive, newgrass, folk, rock, soulful sounds and shimmering vocals into a cohesive musical event which will change the course of the universe and the lives of each audience member.

NEVAH - performing LIVE Music in Maine at
the Next Generation Theatre - Oct 4th
NEVAH is a fairly large band, eight (8) musicians with instrumentation running the gamut from acoustic guitar, mandolin and banjo to electric guitars, electric bass, saxophone, flute, pedal steel & dobro along with a percussion section (drums and congas). Our individual musical tastes vary from bluegrass to folk to rock and roll, jazz, waltzes and the list goes on. And somehow, we … Phil Pitula, Ed Russell, Richard Silver, Larry LeBlanc, Dick Knipping, Jack Anderson, Eric Brown and Hal Meyers … “blend”.

And we have even more exciting news too … Mark Shane … the audio guru will be running our sound for this and hopefully future events.

We look forward to seeing you at the Next Generation Theatre on Oct 4th.

Remembering Those Who Served

Summer means a lot of different things to us here in Maine.  After a long trying winter we relish the blue skies, the fresh air, and the warm temps that finally make their way up to us in July.  For the guys of NEVAH, July and summer have a very special meaning with an event dating back before we were actually a serious "group," - playing at the Veterans Home in Bangor Maine.
If memory serves me right, which at my age I begin to question, it has been over 10 years since we first visited and played for the Veterans for their yearly family cookout.  At the time a loosely knit group of people, me, Kim my wife, Charlie Earley, Richard, Ed, Dr. Eric, Jack, Hal, and Dan Groshan happily accepted an invitation to offer up a little music for this event.  Going under the name of "Never to Late" we played for an hour and a half and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had.  Here were the people who put their lives on the line defending our great nation, many of them from what is now called the "greatest" generation, tapping their feet, dancing, and singing along to some songs they knew.  Thoughts of my Dad and his brothers, all of whom served during World War II, flooded my mind and it was difficult to hold back the tears as the realization hit me that if it wasn't for all of these people we probably would not be there playing music and enjoying our freedom.
So here we are many years later eagerly anticipating our annual July performance which this year will take place on Thursday, July 10th.  Some things have changed, members of the band, vets who have gone on to their reward, but the commitment from the band now named "NEVAH" remains the same - Honor those who have given so much to protect and preserve our freedoms, our Veterans.
It  seems very fitting to me to post this today, July 4th - Independence Day - on the behalf of our current line-up Ed Russell, Richard Silver, Hal Meyers, Larry LeBlanc, Jack Anderson, Eric Brown, Richard Knipping, and yours truly Phillip Pitula - the men of NEVAH, so in the words and music sung by Kate Smith we say to you,
                                                  "GOD BLESS AMERICA"

We were very lucky that the weather held off and it was a sunny/cloudy/cool-ish - day and evening with only a momentary drop or two of rain. Seriously I think I saw two drops.

And … it was graduation weekend on top of everything else - crazy!

We had a blast and it appears the audience did as well. They sang along, danced, clapped, cheered, applauded loudly, laughed at our banter (sometimes) … oh, clogged (yes, we encourage clogging). All of this as we presented a full NEVAH evening including the addition of 7 new tunes and/or arrangements never heard by our audiences.

And funny as it may seem … Dick (DDD - Dick Da Drummer - from NEVAH) had just told me about another band he plays with … the * Lucie HotBand. I "friended" Lucie that very morning, and sure enough, guess who shows up as we are finishing our sound check … and stays for the entire evening …

… I'm not going to tell you , you have to guess.

… guessing yet?

I also had a chance to do a little close-up magic for a few folks. I always like watching people flip out when their signed card ends up inside my wallet … the inner wallet inside the outer wallet that is … oh yeah.

Again thank you to everyone who came by, sang along, laughed a bit, drank a lot, laughed some more and applauded throughout the evening …!

More performances at the Big Easy in the coming months … and stay tuned as NEVAH has several gigs in a couple of weeks.

Make it live …

The NEVAH BANJO GUY on KAVANJO.COM Home Page

Hey friends and fans of NEVAH …

A lot of you have seen us perform live and I know you’ve seen my Stelling Sunflower Banjo with the shiny Jet Black Banjo head. Not your standard/typical banjo look, but kinda fits my on-stage persona. I’m trying for the older bald guy who wears a lot of black, cowboy boots and requires reading glasses to see the frets … a persona I think I’ve achieved.

NEVAH at Macy's
Note (on left) my "Older Bald Guy wearing Black Look" with my Stelling Banjo sporting the Kavnajo
"Black Diplomat" ® banjo head system
… well …

I just found out that my picture (along with another band member - can you guess who) has been included in the KAVANJO.com home page, along with some amazing “notable musicians”.

Kavanjo.com site with Hal and another NEVAH band member - we're amongst GREAT company
Turns out I asked for and received the first Jet Black Kavanjo Banho head, now called a “Black Diplomat” ®. This banjo head with a hand wound patented hum bucking pickup system allows me to quickly and easily “plug in” and amplify my banjo whilst playing music, especially with NEVAH … and it works seamlessly with my Line6=G30 wireless rig too.

I posted several images of the banjo and of me using it, and even wrote a few articles/blogs for my halmeyers.com site.

Would anyone like to take a closer look at my new Kavanjo Banjo Head?
Yesterday I contacted John Kavanaugh - the inventor and manufacturer of the Kavanjo Banjo Head system to tell him I was going to show it around at the upcoming Kruger Brother academy in North Carolina. John then informed me that my picture was on his site … oh yeah.

Definitely check out kavanjo.com when you get a chance …
