The Bangor Y to Host Nevah at the Next Generation Theatre

In approximately six weeks, on Friday November 4th, 2011, the Bangor Y of Maine is hosting NEVAH at the Next Generation Theatre in Brewer Maine. This is a special fundraising event for the Bangor Y. We hope to fill the theatre with our fans and lots of new folks who have not had the opportunity to hear the Progressive Newgrass Rockabilly Music of Nevah.

I've got to let you in on a little inside info, the Nevah band members came up with a NEW word at our last practice, at least I think it's a new word, we are contemplating calling our style, Prograssabilly! I believe it has some prograssabilities, kind of a "ring" to it. What do you think?

Anyway, since tickets are being sold exclusively through the Bangor Y, if you want to get some, you'd better contact them in a hurry. Seating is limited. Below you will find a poster with the details and contact information, but if you can't read the contact number, it's: 207-941-2808. You can always e-mail us too: nevahband@gmail.com and we can get you the details.

Hope to see you there.

Winterport Fireman's Barbecue

On September 25th, 2011 the Winterport Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association Ambulance Service had a "Family Barbeuce" and Nevah was asked to be on hand to entertain. The boys in the band instantly accepted, even though they knew the night before they'd have an early morning departure from the Discovery Channel's Pelletier Loggers Family Restaurant gig in Millinocket Maine.

Nevah, the night before the Winterport gig!
What a treat, the sun was out, the company was delightful, there was a lovely canopy under which we set our equipment and we had no trouble getting power to our sound system.

What more could you ask for? Did I hear you say, "Food?" I almost forgot to mention the food. It was perfect and plentiful, especially the strawberry shortcake for dessert.

I must say a good time was had by all as the band played for about 90 minutes, pulling out all the stops, entertaining the crowd with our favorite tunes.

Did I mention they served strawberry shortcake?

Anyway, it was a perfect Nevah afternoon.

Discovery Channel's Pelletier Loggers Family Restaurant Hosts NEVAH

On September 26, 2011 the Discovery Channel's Pelletier Logger's Family Restaurant upstairs bar was the staging area for a night of NEVAH

Pelletier Sign - Notice they even got the lettering correct on the band name!

Richard, Ed, Jack and Hal arrived early to get a head start on the band's equipment setup. It didn't take long before they had the speakers, stands, cables, power cords, sound board, microphones, microphone stands, instruments and risers in place. Everything was neatly arranged, plugged in to it's appropriate jack on the "snake" and then the opposite end of the snake attached to the sound board. A real thing of beauty to watch the setup, which I believe now takes less than an hour from start to finish.

Jack, after setting up his stage, pedal steel, mics and stands, donned a set of headphones and we all helped with a preliminary "level's set" for the vocal mics and instruments.

Shortly thereafter the rest of the Men O' Nevah showed up, Phil, Larry and our newest Nevah-Man Dick Knipping, whom we thank for filling in on percussion for "Doctor Eric Brown" who was not available for this gig. A second thank you goes out to Scotty Reynolds who came by a few minutes later to run the board and fine tune our sound for the evening, since Jay was not available this past Saturday. When everyone had all their instruments in place and ready to go we ran a quick sound check with the entire band to finish adjusting all the levels.

Scotty (in the foreground) fine tuning the NEVAH sound.

Then, it was revealed to all, the NEW 4' x 8' NEVAH BANNER … and a special thank you goes out to the anonymous donor of said BANNER. It looked terrific hanging on the wall. Luckily we were able to find a place to hang it near the band.

After everything was set we had an hour and a half to go, so most of the band went downstairs to have a bite to eat. A "lite meal" of course.

Oh, I almost forgot, the wonderful crisp photos you see were provided by Adria, the lovely and talented wife of our guitar player, Larry LeBlanc. Adria also took some video of the evening and we're hoping to get it very soon.

Hal, Larry, Richard, Jack, Phil, Ed, Dick
NEVAH started playing at 9 pm and had a wonderful time performing several sets for the appreciative fans who stayed for several hours throughout the evening. A good time was had by all and we even got a nice post on our facebook Sunday afternoon, "Steve wrote: "Good sounding music last night in Millinocket at Pelletiers!"

That's all for now …

Evergreen Fall Schedule

Evergreen, friends of Nevah, sent us their Fall schedule which we are posting for all the Nevah blog readers. If you haven't seen Evergreen in performance here's your chance. They are a wonderful quartet of musicians, guitar, banjo, bass and harmonica with very tight vocal arrangements and a terrific repertoire of tunes.

Evergreen has some special shows coming up at some of our favorite venues.  On October 22nd we will appear at the Wayside Theater in No. Dexter - small intimate setting with comfortable seating. The show is preceded by a dinner – reservations required. In December, Evergreen will be at the East Sangerville Grange, a coffee house setting with the best desserts and coffee around.  It has been a few years since we performed at this venue and we are really looking forward to returning. This is a special venue, with great acoustics, lots of ambiance, and did I mention, great desserts.

In November we will be playing at the Maine Harvest Festival at the Bangor Auditorium.  There will be a farmers market along with bakers, cheese artisans, vintners, and brewers from Maine.  If you are a foodie, its’ the place to be – plus you get to hear Evergreen.

Evergreen will be doing a guest appearance at the Abbott Hill Ramblers CD Release party in Dexter on Oct. 27.  The Ramblers are a youth group, mentored by our own Chris Prickitt and this is to celebrate their 6th recording.  Great youth band with lots of enthusiasm for acoustic music.  It is always fun to do shows with the Ramblers.

Pelletiers Loggers Family Restaurant to Feature Nevah - again!

On September 24th, 2011, NEVAH is excited to be appearing once again at the Discovery Channels - Pelletier Loggers Family Restaurant to help celebrate a rip roaring truck pull weekend.

The huge second floor bar room is the place to be as NEVAH starts playing their music at 9:00 pm ending at 1:00 am (of course they'll be taking a few breaks in between, it's only fair). There will be a lot of dancing, singing and terrific beer on tap. NEVAH is prepared to bring YOU ALL a super time, playing a huge variety of music to keep everyone on their feet dancing and a' singin' for the evening.

And don't forget the restaurant downstairs for some amazing food. I know the Band has been talking about "the Loggers Early Morning Breakfast" after the show. Hmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmmm good.

The NitPickers Band

Here is a band, The NitPickers, who lean towards the bluegrass side of things like Nevah with Newgrass, Bluegrass roots. Any band, we haven't seen, who plays Newgrass and/or Bluegrass makes us a bit curious. And the NitPickers are one we've heard about and would like the opportunity to check out in the near future. However, until we do catch them in action we will continue to help support the cause for Maine Music here on our Blog.

The NitPickers:
"An ear-catchingly great bluegrass band from Central Maine. Formed in June of 2007, The NitPickers play traditional and original bluegrass and newgrass with impressive harmonies and raw enthusiasm.

Their self-titled CD displays a range of material from newgrass instrumentals to eloquent ballads to playful modern bluegrass delivered with heart and commitment.

Members are Don Bernier on fiddle, mandolin, guitar and vocals, Jane Bernier on guitar, mandolin and vocals, Rich Bernier on dobro, guitar and vocals, Richard Bicknell on banjo, and Woody Woods on bass and vocals.

If you get a chance, catch 'em at a venue near you!

Eightysomething Band

Eightysomething is a band from our neck of the woods. Nevah joined the music scene 10 years ago when most of the Nevah players lived in Winterport Maine, right up the road from Bangor. We have not had a chance to check out Eightysomething yet but it is on our bucket list. We are sure that the Nevah fans and Eightysomething fans have probably crossed paths, there just aren't that many folks up here in central Maine listening to Live music. So all of you please take the opportunity to check out both the Nevah Band and the Eightysomething Band.

"MAINE'S PREMIER 80'S TRIBUTE BAND We're What You've Been Waiting For! It's Time For Something Different..... Something 80's... You asked for it...We answered with eightysomething. 4 Musical Forces from the Greater Bangor Area join up to create 80's sounds the way they were meant to be heard! Created with members previously from SHYBOY, CURIOUS GEORGE, STAR 69 AND ROKKEN 75+ years of collective experience! New Wave to Hair Metal.. WE DO IT ALL!! And we do it RIGHT!"
